WALT identify the author and the illustrator in the text.

WALT identify the author and the illustrator in the text.

Room 4 has been using all of our reading skills this year, ready for Year 2. Every week we have a new 'test'
about different parts of the book. We have been searching for full stops, exclamation marks, question marks
and commas. This week we are focusing on finding the author and the illustrator. We all had a turn to come up
and point to where the authors name is. Miss Donnell tried to trick some of us and changed the pages!

'I know the author is the writer of the story and they do the words.'

WALT make a prediction about the story.

WALT make a prediction about the story.

The giraffes group have been learning about making predictions in a story. We have been making some of our own predictions throughout our books. We know that a prediction is like a 'guess' about what we think is going to happen.

'The shark is going to eat the octopus's legs because sharks like octopus's.'

Finding Root Words

We are learning to identify a root word.

In Reading we have been looking for root words and discussing different word endings we find in the book.  By practising this we are able to decode unknown words more effectively.

"I could find all the root words", said Erica.

I am learning to complete a word family

In Reading we have been learning how to complete a word family.  We know that all the words in a word family rhyme with each other.  We also know that they have the same letters at the end of the word.  Here is a screen shot of an ipad game we played about word families:

"I had to rhyme words.  Dad rhymes with glad."

We are learning to point to each word when we read

We are learning to point to each word when we read a story.  This is called one-to-one word matching and it helps us to focus on each word that we read.

"I'm good at pointing to the writing."
