WALT create a wearable piece of artwork

WALT create a wearable piece of artwork.

Our art focus over Term 2 and 3 has been creating a piece of
art we can wear. Miss Donnell introduced us to a song in The Little Mermaidcalled 'Under the Sea' which was the focus of our art work.

We created our artwork by sketching sea animals in our books and tracing them onto laminated sheets. We coloured them in and created patterns using vivids. Miss Donnell glued them on to tutus and t-shirts for us to wear.

Check out my awesome art piece!

WALT explore and share ideas about music from a range of sound environments

WALT explore and share ideas about
music from a range of sound
environments.

Room 4 were lucky enough to have Mrs D come
into the classroom to teach a music lesson
about sound. First we made different sounds
using our bodies, like clapping our hands and
stamping our feet.
Then we played a follow the leader game where
everyone had to make a different sound and we
all had to copy them. It was so much fun!

'I made lots of cool sounds with Mrs D. Music is fun!'

WALT sketch self-portraits

Room 4 have been learning about drawing self-portraits.

We started by sketching a picture of our face and neck.
Then we used pastels to colour ourselves in.

The last part was the border! We used corrugated cardboard to design
a cool pattern around our portraits.
Check out my awesome work!

Diwali Divas

We have been learning about celebrations around the world.  One of the celebrations we explored was Diwali.  We learnt that it is known as the festival of light and one of the parts of this festival is lighting diva (pronounced "diya").  We made our own diva using clay and tea-light candles and then we decorated them with paint and glitter.  Happy Diwali everyone!

"When it is Diwali people light divas to celebrate", said Erica.

Bunnings visits Elm Park

This week we were lucky enough to have Bunnings come and visit us and put together a fun day where students got to build a project.  Nga tamariki had an absolute blast hammering, glueing, problem solving and painting to create a masterpiece.  Here is a brief snap-shot of the fun:

"I liked screwing the hooks in.  I liked the painting too."

I am learning about reflection and shading

In art we have been learning about shading and reflection.  Students observed an apple and then drew the shapes they could see onto different coloured paper.  Once the shapes were all cut out and stuck together students then looked at the apple again to see where the shiny bits were and where the shadows were.  They used white crayon and charcoal to show this on their apples.

"I like that my apples are nice and round and shiny."
