Our Writing Successes

    

WALT reflect on our 2018 writing.

We looked in our writing books at the first piece of writing
we did this year and the most recent piece of writing.
We talked about what had changed in our writing,
what we have learnt so far and are excited
to learn next year in Year 2.

Something I have learnt in writing this year is how to write lots and lots.

Something I am proud of in writing this year is using full stops and capital letters.

WALT read back our writing.

This term we have been learning about how to write
awesome stories. We started by drawing pictures and
talking about our ideas. Then we started writing our ideas
down in a sentence. We have even started using full stops!
When we come and see Miss Donnell we check that our
work makes sense by reading it to her.

'I can write 2 sentences. Tomorrow I want to write 3!' -Erica

Descriptive Words

We are learning to add interesting language to our story.

In Story Writing we have been brainstorming adjectives (describing words) and trying to use them in our stories to make our work sound more exciting.  Guy Fawkes gave us the opportunity to practise some of these words:

"Describing words are tricky to use in writing", said Erica.

I am learning to use my word card

In Writing we have been learning to use our word card.  It has some words in the colourful boxes and these help us to write our story.  If we need to write a word that isn't on our card we can say the word slowly and write down the sounds we can hear instead.

"I do quality work when I colour in", said Erica.
